Mumbai: As the New Year ushers in, besides the very famous Kingfisher’s swimsuit calendar, the only other calendar that people really look forward to is the star studded one by ace Bollywood photographer Dabboo Ratnani.

Ratnani launched his calendar on 5 January, at Olive, Bandra. Known for coming up with innovative ideas every year, he wanted to do something totally different this year since it’s the 10th Anniversary calendar. Speaking to the media, Ratnani says, “This is my 10th Anniversary calendar so I wanted to do something completely different. For the first time I got 48 actors to feature in it and even though it did take a lot of effort in getting everyone’s dates, it was not very difficult since I started to work on it as early as August and planned my concept well in advance.”

Unlike every year he did not have a particular theme for this year’s calendar. He says “This year I thought of having different images instead of a particular theme, I did not want to bind myself to a theme, I just let myself loose. I wanted no restrictions and with a theme you get restricted. I have used a lot of variations and lots of funky props like fast cars, trucks, bikes or a piano. I’ve tried to make every shot different. In one of the shots I’ve even used the Indian army outfit, in other words I’ve completely tried to push myself to make this a landmark calendar.”

The calendar this year is a lot larger; it’s a bigger desk calendar mainly to accommodate all the 48 stars. Quite literally too! Sexy lady Urmila Matondkar has a nervous time coming around this Diwali – the gorgeous actress has not one but two ‘Karz’ coming up this festive season.

Well we are talking about her two upcoming movies and the one thing common between the both is to do with ‘karz’. While on the one hand there is Bhushan Kumar’s film titled ‘Karzzzz’ with Himesh Reshammiya and the other hand there is ‘EMI’ which is all about ….. karz, once again!

But the similarities end only till the name. Both the films are very different in terms of their concept where one is a remake of a classic love story and the other is a light-hearted modern day satire.

Well, he will be as soon as he gets back from his two-week holiday in Goa with his girlfriend Manyata. Dutt’s new look for the film EMI (Easy Monthly Installment), includes a trimmed beard and a fit body thanks to the gym. Shooting will commence on December 12th .

EMI, which also stars Urmila Matondkar, is about a couple who cannot bear the burden of their monthly installments. The last time we saw the two stars together was in the film Khoobsurat.

Yes, Urmila Matondkar’s forthcoming film Run Mein Fun showcases her in a role quite similar to the one Julie Andrews played in the 1965 show-stopping musical film The Sound of Music. Run Mein Fun is adapted from a story written by the famous author Ruskin Bond, and is Matondkar’s second adapted film. The first was the critically acclaimed Pinjar, a film by Chandra Prakash Dwivedi, based on Amrita Pritam’s novel titled the same, in which she played Puro.

Director Sunil Advani says that the character Matondkar portrays was deliberately tailored to resemble that of Andrews’ character Maria, right from her being a music teacher to the style of clothes she wears in the film. Here is where the similarities end though.

Andrews was the governess of seven children and played the lead actress. In this film there are only two boys and Matondkar only makes a cameo appearance. The boys run away from boarding school and meet up with all kinds of people, good and bad. “Urmila turns out to be the good one who helps them along the way,” says Advani.

Incidentally, Vishal Bharadwaj’s The Blue Umbrella (Chatri Chor) was the heart-warming adaptation of another of Bond’s beloved novellas by the same name. A Flight of Pigeons was also adapted as the movie Junoon by director Shyam Benegal.
