It is a sad day not only in Bollywood but for all who knew actor Amitabh Bachchan’s 93-year-old mother Teji Bachchan. She passed away on Friday after prolonged illness. In Lilavati Hospital for almost this entire year, she was suddenly shifted to the intensive care unit on November 7th when her condition worsened.

Born as Teji Suri to Punjabi parents, she became the second wife of the late renowned Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan in 1941, after the death of his first wife. Harivansh died in 2003 at the age of 96.

A Sikh from Karachi, Teji was an amateur actor as well as a singer. She is survived by her two sons Amitabh and Ajitabh.
