Rajaatesh Nayar’s (son of executive producer K.K. Nayyar) directorial debut Sirf touts the tagline, “life looks greener on the other side”, showing that most people are not content with what they have and wanting what others have since that is what always seems to look better.
The film portrays the life of four couples paired up as follows: Kay Kay Menon and Manisha Koirala, Sonali Kulkarni with Ranvir Shorey, Parveen Dabbas and Rituparna Sengupta, Ankur Khanna with Nauheed Cyrusi.
Sirf follows them through their lives and how they yearn for what someone else has, thinking it will get them closer to their own happiness, whether it be money, love, trust or time for each other. Going along we find that the problems of one person brings comical relief to the other.
They all belong to different social segments and each couple has its own problems to deal with, but somewhere they all come across each other. The search for the brighter side of life brings them together. Will any of them ever find what they are searching for? Or do the chance meetings only create more havoc in their lives? We’ll just have to watch to know for sure.
One shoot for the film took place on the rooftop of a 16-story building as Nayar wanted a panoramic view of both Dharavi and the Mumbai skyline.
Sohail Sen and Shibani Kashyap have composed the music for the film. Baba Azmi has taken on the cinematography. The producers of the film are Sanjay Kotadia, Ghanshyam Patel and Kanu Patel. Pyramid Saimira Theatre Ltd.’s Sirf is scheduled to be released on April 4th.
Just a side note, actress Manisha Koirala was mobbed by hundreds of fans while shooting for the film. Fans wanted autographs and asked so many questions about her personal life that it took two hours for her to get through it all. Two of Koirala’s other films, Mehbooba and God Tussi Great Ho made about a decade ago, are also expected to see the light of day soon.
