His directorial debut was Masoom (1983) with Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi as the leads. Then five years later Mr. India (1987) with Anil Kapoor hit the silver screen. However, it was his real life story Bandit Queen with Seema Biswas (Water) essaying the role of Phoolan Devi that brought him international acclaim and attention.
His other films include The Four Feathers (2002) with Heath Ledger, Elizabeth (1998), which was nominated for seven Oscars and won Cate Blanchett, one of them for best actress and Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007) which was nominated for two Oscars at this year’s Academy Awards.
Now Kapur has returned to his homeland to create his dream project Paani. The story is set in 2025 in a city of 20 million people with no water.

We’ve seen Shahrukh Khan in many endorsement commercials ranging from anti-dandruff shampoo to biscuits and soda, even men’s fairness cream, cars, beauty soap, mobile phones and computers. Now we will see him in a new avatar.
Jet Airways will have SRK, who is already on their board of directors, in their new commercial, directed by the internationally acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur. Elizabeth-The Golden Age is the latest film released by Kapur.
Part of the Jet Airway ad has already been completed. The remaining of it will be shot once Khan and Kapur complete some of their other commitments.
