Previously it was thought that Bollywood baadshah Shahrukh Khan would not be making an appearance at the Zine Cine Awards 2008. However, it is now learned that he actually will be there to perform.

Other actors from tinseltown will be Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif Vidya Balan, Shahid Kapur, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. This should prove to be an interesting mix.

Hosting the show will be Karan Johar and Lara Dutta along with Sajid Khan.

Thankfully after starting to smoke during the filming of Kismet Connection, due to his breakup with Bebo, Shahid Kapur aka Sha-K has decided to kick the habit for good! Realizing how harmful it was for him and the negative message it was sending out to all his fans, especailly the young ones, he promised to quit … and quit he has.

Sha-K has been gearing up for his next film with Ken Ghosh and training very diligently with close friend and trainer Abbas Ali. Ali had been getting worried about Sha-K’s demeanor and the damaging effects that the smoking was having on him.

Now that he has been off the cancer sticks for several days, things will get better for him in terms of feeling better and being able to concentrate on his training and shooting. It’s ironic that he has quit just as Kismet Connection is getting ready to be released. All the best to Sha-K in this venture.

The man who has taken the responsibility of taking Sha-K’s career to the next level is good friend and first director in Ishq Vishq, Ken Ghosh, who is all set to make Bollywood’s most expensive dance film till date called Yahoo.

However, the steps will not be choreographed by any of Bollywood’s usual chorographers. Rather, it will be none other than Marty Kedulka (Justin Timberlake’s choreographer) and Brian Friedman (Britney Spears’ chorographer) who will be flying down sometime in May to choreograph the special dance steps for the film.

“This is going to be Bollywood’s first genuine dance movie,” says co-producer Ram Mirchandani. Kedulka was approached by Ghosh in LA and is thrilled at the prospect of doing a Bollywood’s dance movie.

“This is my fastest script so far. I completed it within 5 months and narrated it to Shahid when he was shooting in Toronto. From there I went to LA and hooked up with Marty Kedulka and Brian Friedman. This movie will take dance to the next level and who can be a better actor than Shahid Kapoor. He has really evolved as an actor,” says Ghosh.

Shahid too, is excited about dancing to the ace Hollywood chorographers’ steps. “It’s going to be a challenge, but I’m ready to accept it. I’m glad at the early stage of my career I’m getting something like this. I’m told it is going to be Bollywood’s first dance movie and dance is my USP,” says a delighted Sha-K.

It is rumored that Jiah Khan will be the lead actress opposite Sha-K in Yahoo.

Shahid Kapur will soon be seen in a new avatar, that of a sensitive and caring teacher in Paathshala. Produced by Ahmed Khan (Lakeer, Fool N Final) and directed by Milind Ukey, Paathshala has Kapur essaying the role of an English and music teacher who helps nurture a bunch of mischievous and troubled kids.

Excited to be emulating one of his favorite actors Aamir Khan, Sha-K is looking forward to the film with much anticipation. Ahmed Khan too is looking forward to producing a film that he says, “In Paathshaala, I’m doing a film straight from my heart.”

Several recognizable child artists will be members of the Paathshala cast, such as Swini Khara (Cheeni Kum), Haji Ali (Tara Rum Pum) and Dwij Yadav (Nanhe Jaisalmer).

We remember two that both Sha-K and Ahmed were also child artists at one time. Khan was in Shekhar Kapoor’s Mr. India. In light of this fact Khan comments, “We’re all putting our minds together to look into the mind of a child and the child within a man.”

Paathshala’s school set has been erected at Film City. “We even have a basketball court,” says Khan.

Although an original script, Paathshala being written a year before Aamir Khan’s latest super hit Taare Zameen Par, producer Ahmed Khan admits there are similarities between the two films. We’ll just have to wait for the release to find out how many similarities really do exist. Will it become a super hit too? Only time will tell.

Already an amazing dancer, as we have seen from his films, Shahid Kapur still feels there is room for improvement. So he has been adding protein into his regular vegetarian diet and working out more at the gym.

With quite a chiseled physique, Kapur feels that working out with fitness trainer Abbas Ali will help him build stronger shoulders, abdomen and thigh muscles. All this for his next role as a dancer in Ken Ghosh’s new venture.

Making his limbs stronger will help the actor when he has to perform quick and strenuous dance movements.

Kapur has joined the same league of dancers as Hrithik Roshan. Shiamak Davar commented on this point, “ with Shahid now honing his skills further, he may emerge as the undisputed best.”

After Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor ended their four-year relationship, another long-time couple has followed suit. It is learned that last month, Amisha Patel and Vikram Bhatt parted ways after a five-year stint, with Patel moving out of Bhatt’s flat.

The rumor mills are working overtime as usual, trying to sort out the reason for the rift between the two. Kanav Puri’s name has been thrown into the ring, as the London-based businessman and Patel have been spotted together on several occasions. Yet both Patel and Bhatt describe the rumor as rubbish and say they are just giving one another their needed space in the relationship.

Well, whatever the reason, we’re sure Yash Raj Films is happy to know that Patel will now have more time now to devote to the first film she has just signed with them. It will be directed by Kunal Kohli. The film also stars Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherji and Rishi Kapoor.

Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par bagged six key awards including the Best Director (Aamir Khan shared the best director award for the

film with Shimit Amin for Chak De! India.), Best Child Actor (Darsheel), Best Story (Amol Gupte), Best Lyricist (Prasoon Joshi),

Best Supporting Actor (Aamir Khan) and Best Dialogues.

Yash Raj Films’ ‘Chak De! India’ was declared the Best Film of the Year.

Shah Rukh Khan bagged the Best Actor Award for his performance in Shimit Amin directed Chak De! India while Kareena Kapoor won the

Best Actress Award for her spirited performance as Geet in the Imtiaz Ali directed film Jab We Met.

A R Rahman won the Best Music Director Award for Mani Ratnam’s ‘Guru’.

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone won the honor of Best Pair while Deepika was also adjudged the Best Newcomer (Female). Ranbir

Kapoor won the Best Newcomer (Male) Award.

Manoj Kumar was honored with the Star Screen Lifetime Achievement Award, for his great contribution to the Hindi cinema.

The function was attended by the who’s who of Bollywood.

Shah Rukh Khan performed the ‘Dard-e-Disco’ number from Om Shanti Om at the event.

Others who performed included Shahid Kapur, Katrina Kaif, Urmila Matondkar, Ritesh Deshmukh and Dia Mirza.

We reported earlier how several actors have become teary-eyed while watching Aamir Khan’s super directorial hit Taare Zameen Par, including Sha-K (Shahid Kapur). We now learn that Karen Johar joins them.

“I couldn’t move from my seat for 10 minutes after the show. I just sobbed like a baby.” Not only that but the film was such an emotional experience for KJo that he admitted, “I was so moved by the story of the parents discovering the core of their child’s spirit that I now want to be a parent. I’m neither married nor have I ever intended to be a father in real life. But after watching Taare Zamen Par I truly want to be a father, to connect with a child on a level that only a parent can understand.”

Praise also flowed freely for the debutant director from his friend SRK. “After seeing the film I called up Aamir and told him that sincerity of vision was part of his DNA. He just can’t help being the creator and the artiste that he is. It’s hard to believe Taare Zamen Par is his first film as a director. Look at the performance he has got out of the child actor Darsheel Safary.”

Actors, audiences and critics agree … Taare Zameen Par is definitely a landmark film.
