Inspired by the oceans of the world, Babita Malkani’s collection called “Coralien”, paid tribute to the coral reefs of the globe. Interesting designing along with luxurious satin, georgettes, linen, chiffon and cotton were blended together in shades of blue and green with a hint of orange, pink, white and black for fluid silhouettes, billowing sack dresses and layered gowns. The print story was abstract with detailing which revolved around smocking, shirring and delicate gathers to give a feminine touch to the garments. Bollywood beauty, Celina Jaitley was the show stopper in a graceful layered georgette abstract print gown with beautiful embroidery on the bodice.

The auditorium of the NCPA was changed into a wedding mandap for the most spectacular bridal wear show – Bridal Sutra – to launch the “Lakme Beauty Sutra” line at the Grand Finale of Lakme Fashion Week. “Lakmé Bridal Sutra” line draws it’s inspiration from rituals and joy of a wedding, along with the splendid colours of Indian jewels and burnished hues of precious metals.

Sabyasachi’s collections were a feast for the eyes as he created spectacular bridal wear for the whole family – the bride, groom and the children. Stunning lehengas, beautiful cholis breathtaking dupattas, superb kurtas, salwars, churidars, amazing saris with the most outstanding embroidery and prints inspired by the Patan Patola of Orissa. Velvet, silk, organza, brocade, chiffon and georgette were the basis of the fabulous collection, in myriad muted colours.

Each creation was a work of art that could be cherished and preserved by generations to come. The finale was the entry of the three Lakme faces – Indrani Dasgupta, Vipasha Agarwal and Amrit Maghera who were dressed in opulent bridal wear.

It was sheer luxury at the Lux party at Privé after the rocking show by celebrated couturier Vikram Phadnis at Lakmé Fashion Week on Thursday night. The adrenaline rush was still one with the experience of the exciting show that saw Bollywood babe, Priyanka Chopra, and cricket star Sreesanth on the ramp. Plus, surprise, surprise, the presence of Shaimak Davar who sang his heart out along with his dancers who moved and grooved and encouraged you to join in, even though it was a fashion show!

Shimak Davar and Sreesanth were there at Privé along with Vikram Phadnis, of course. And the party rocked with the presence of Lakmé’s Anil Chopra and wife Sabina, Wendell Rodricks who brightened things up with his multi-hued lungi, Sunil Shetty and wife Mana, Mohammed Azharuddin and Sangeeta Bijlani, Marc Robinson, Shriya Saran, assorted foreign models and Indian models like Sanea Sheikh. The dance trance was on with party people hitting the dance floor, the bars were buzzing, and for a balanced diet you could go across to Tetsuma and enjoy a delightful dinner.

Neetu Chandra strutted a skirt sari from Agnimitra Paul’s men and women’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection themed ‘The Black Lily’ at Lakme Fashion Week on October 23. The range is a tribute to those who see the world as it feels.

Chandra wore a white georgette shimmering skirt with a black, orange, green net and chiffon sari with beautiful embellishments.

Lux, the beauty soap of the film stars and Vikram Phadnis presented the most stylish fashion extravaganza for Spring/Summer 2009 ever seen at Lakme Fashion Week. Shriya Saran, South India’s superstar opened the show in a gorgeous red crepe layered gown with gleaming crystal bustier.

Soon the Harlequin inspired dresses, gowns, minis, skirts in multi-coloured, designs, patterns and fabrics enthralled the audience. Men’s wear was flamboyant with Zouave pants in hot shades of orange, green and yellow, white linen jackets with 3D embroidery and an ornate sherwani. To add excitement to the men’s wear section, ace bowler Shreeshant walked confidently down the ramp in a 2 button pinstriped black suit to thunderous applause.

The show stopper was Lux beauty, Priyanka Chopra who glided down the ramp in an ethereal white net layered and tiered gown with a faux leather bustier. Shiamak Davar rocked the hall with his singing, as his whole dance troupe set the ramp on fire with their foot tapping moves, which even got the audience on their feet and dancing in the aisles.

Designer Narendra Kumar and Sunsilk presented a hair style and fashion fantasy at the Spring/Summer 2009 Lakme Fashion Week that saw Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Mugdha Godse of ‘Fashion’ walk down the runway to the cheers of a packed house.

The trendy hairstyles were created by Global hair expert of Sunsilk from UK, Andrew Barton, which featured Curls, Straight and Layers.

Narendra presented his latest label “Nari Nari” aimed at the trendy young women of the country.

Designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock unleashed their new label called Spendthrift Couture for Spring/Summer 2009 Lakme Fashion Week on October 20 at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai.

The collection was a mix of the most interesting dresses, corsets, shirts, skirts, jewelry and much more. The creations were very unconventional and completely aimed at the woman who dares to make a sensational style statement.

Young designer Nachiket Barve stole the show with superior fashion geometry in his spring/summer collection on the first day of the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW).

Barve’s collection was simple, elegant and wearable. The silhouettes were simple yet elegant for the day and evening wear using color blocking and paneling along with cut works and layers gave his dresses a novel look.

Bollywood actress Jaya Bachchan was spotted looking pleased as punch at the Nachiket Barve fashion show. Her sari is quite the looker with its sheer fabric and fine zari work on the pallav.
