It was done with Mughal-e-Azam and Naya Daur. Now, the colourized version of the original black and white classic Hum Dono, is expected to hit the marquees soon. This news comes from a source close to the legendary actor and evergreen star of the 1961 film Dev Anand. Anand, you may recall, played double roles (Capt. Mahesh Anand/ Major. Manohar Lal Verma) opposite Sadhna Shivdasani (Mita) and Nanda (Ruma) as the female leads.
The colourization process is being undertaken by Goldstone Technologies. It will be accomplished using an unlimited spectrum of color applied to a range of 64,000 black and white levels in each frame, through a new technology which will be used to pigment the film. Release time is expected in December or January.
While waiting for it, we can travel back in time to remember the song ‘Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar’ and it’s amazingly romantic lyrics – “Abhi na jao chhod kar, ke dil abhi bhara nahi. Abhi abhi toh aayi ho, bahar banke chaiye ho, hawa zara mehak toh le, nazar zara behak to le, yeh shyam dhal to le zara, yeh dil sambhal to le zara. Mein thodi der jee toh loon, nashe ke ghoont peeh toh loon. Abhi to kuch kaha nahin, abhi toh kuch suna nahin.”
