rang_rasiya_poster_1Infinity Filmed Entertainment India is all set to release their new film ‘Rang Rasiya’, written and directed by one of India’s acclaimed Director Ketan Mehta, and produced by Aanand Mahendroo and Deepa Sahi under their banner in India on 23rd January 2009. Randeep Hooda, Nandana Sen, Paresh Rawal, Ashish Vidyarthi, Rajat Kapoor, Prrosant Narayannan, Tom Alter are among the stupendous star-cast with whom this film has become the talk of the town and why not? After all, the film has won the praise of the critics and audience simultaneously at two of the most prestigious international film festivals – London and New York Film Festivals. To further add to its brilliance is the fact that on the international arena it is known by the name ‘Colours of Passion’. This film is a fascinating tale of Raja Ravi Varma’s passions, his obsessions and his fierce struggle for creative freedom.

Rang Rasiya is based on a classical Indian novel ‘Raja Ravi Varma’ written by the award winning novelist and playwright Ranjit Desai. The Novel is woven around the life and times of the great Indian painter of the 19th century, Raja Ravi Varma. It deals with religious intolerance and denial of freedom of expression by fundamentalists and hardliners – sadly a fact even today. He was arrested and charged with obscenity, immortality and hurting religious sentiments of the people. His offence was painting nudes of Indian mythological characters. A court case begins. Woven with the case is the classic love story of the artist and his muse – Sughanda. Together they create the most amazing works of art. Her beauty inspires him to create exquisite paintings based on themes from Indian mythology and classic literature. She becomes his inspiration… his love.

Often celebrated as a reformer, a true visionary and a pioneer, Raja Ravi Varma wanted his art to be seen by the common man. Through his imagery he brought gods outside the confines of temples and places. In the film the audience would see the love story of Shakespearean time; an intense tale of love, betrayal and passion between the artist and his muse. Mehtas homage offers not only a spectacular insight into a turning point in Indian history, but also questions the freedom of the artist in contemporary society, exploring questions of moral policing, censorship and religious intolerance.

In keeping with the tradition of the great classical melody, the music of the film has been composed by Sandesh Shandilya. The lyrics are contributed by Manoj Muntashir. Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, Roop Kumar Rathod, Kailash Kher, Anwar Khan and Rajashwari Pathak have given their golden voices to the harmonious tunes.
