It might have taken seven years, but it has sure been worth it! Giving much pride to his homeland, India’s outstanding contemporary music composer A.R. Rahman (born Dileep Kumar on January 6, 1966) launched his first full-fledged orchestra (and India’s first) on March 12th.

Rahman also lunched his KM Conservatory, a music school for professional musicians along with the orchestra. Now he won’t have to travel to London or Budapest to compose his creations.

Quoting from the maestro, “The orchestra, will be fully operational within the next two years and will have both Indian as well as Western musicians. It will play combinations of two kinds of instruments. There is so much talent in India, but we have no symphony orchestra.”

Well, now India will have its own symphony orchestra in the western mode. It will serve as a resident studio orchestra where Rahman can perform his own compositions for the music industry, the people of Chennai (his birthplace) and the rest of India.
