It seems Sajay and Manyata’s marriage was short lived, well at least the first one. The problem arose when their registered marriage of February 7 which took place in Goa brought doubts over how Manyata obtained a residence certificate in Goa. Officials said that Manyata had to provide any valid proof that she has been staying at the shown Goa address. In view of this, Dutt withdrew his marriage declaration before the South Goa Sub Registrar. The two were then remarried in Mumbai with full Hindu rites on February 11.

His directorial debut was Masoom (1983) with Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi as the leads. Then five years later Mr. India (1987) with Anil Kapoor hit the silver screen. However, it was his real life story Bandit Queen with Seema Biswas (Water) essaying the role of Phoolan Devi that brought him international acclaim and attention.

After just about tolerating all the semi comical and amateurish stuff on television I had been expectantly waiting for a long time for an Indian movie maker to do justice to a historical/period movie. Jodhaa Akbar was a trifle disappointing but not a total disaster either. In today’s times when the attention span of the audience is progressively on the descendent holding interest for three and a half hours is no mean feat.

Preparations are in full swing for the marriage of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant at the end of March. Once the couple return from Paris, where they are working on the musical Padmavati for the French opera house Theatre du Chatelet.
