With claims of having sung nearly 12,000 songs in over 14 languages, part of which includes playback singing for over 900 movies in a career spanning over six decades, Bollywood singing legend Asha Bhosle received the Padma Vibhushan Award, India’s second highest civilian honour on Saturday.

The 74 year old said she was happy that she received it during her lifetime and not posthumously. “They announced the award so that I stop singing,” she joked during a music concert to mark the 60th anniversary of India’s independence. “I’m living on bonus time. The award came late but I’m happy nonetheless,” she added.
